How to break a fall backwards. In the basic training, squat, fall back, break fall before hitting with the back. Raise your head so the chin will go to your chest. You should hit with the palms and with the forearms. Your elbows should not hit the ground. The base leg is near your butt. The other leg is raised. Wind your knee towards you, have the foot ready to counter-attack. The foot should be pointing diagonally outward. In the beginning, especially when you do slow, you should sit down and then make the break fall.
Here is an example for practicing the how to break fall backwards, this time from a ball. Roll backwards, when you fall, break with your hands before your back hits the ground. Remember to raise your head, have your chin to the chest. Rolling backwards to the left shoulder, suitable for right-handed people. Move back, sit down, and roll backwards. To avoid hitting your head, send your head sideways, the ear to the shoulder. Send two palms over your shoulder. Your right leg should be over your head, your left leg should be over your shoulder. Keep your knees to you, land first with the balls of the feet. Press with your palms to come up to a general outward stance.
