Here we have a training method where the attacker is circling half a circle in front of the defender and from different angles and different directions the attacker is attacking different punches, different strikes with a circular or straight.
The defender always starts from passive stance in this drill. As a defender, you should be looking forward the moment you see the action. Then you can move your sight, then you can look towards the direction of the attacker.
Practically, we have few options here, especially when the attacker’s at your side. If you are ready you can defend with one hand and attack with the other. If you are a bit less ready but still rather aggressive, defend and counter with the same hand. The other hand can follow with the control or the protection or naturally with an attack.
The third option is defend while leaning away. More of a startled response. Counterattack first with a kick and then continue as needed. The fourth option is definitely when you are not ready, you defend leaning and moving away quickly. This will distance yourself so you are able now to act against the opponent or of course escape the area. The attacker strikes from the rear.
The most important thing is move away quickly and position yourself in a way you can react and act against the attacker who may be charging you once again. The basic technique is turn, prepare yourself to do a defense. At the same time you move away quickly from the danger zone. If the attacker attacks again now you are ready at a better distance to defend, to counter, and to finish the situation.
A. Circular Strikes Hooks (Roundhouses) & Uppercuts
Notes: Start drilling both strikes first from a semi-passive stance, then from a ready stance; for the hooks, while in ready stance the front-hand strike has two variations.
D. Kicks
E. Series of Attacks – to the front, side and rear; with different targets, heights and angles
F. Inside Defenses with Palm or Forearm Against Straight Punches
G. Outside Defenses Against Punches
H. Body Defense with Hand Strike to Groin
I. Defending Against an Opponent Attacking from Different Angles
J. Leg Defenses Against Kicks [from passive and ready ('outlet') stances]
Note: Technique no.1 is first applied against regular kicks and later against roundhouse and sidekicks. Techniques 3 and 4 are used against an attack delivered to an unknown height. Use the forearm as previously learned, bony or muscular parts for inside or outside defenses.
K. Choke Releases (including Distance Timeline)
Note: When lack of force, use two hands to remove one of attacker's chocking hand.
L. Defenses Against a Knife Threat (including Distance Timeline)
N. Choke Releases While on the Ground
O. Using Common Objects – Small Objects to Distract
Note: This is used primarily in a situation before an actual attack is made, mainly during the threat stage or in the very early stages of an attack.
Q. Returning Attacker (defend -- attack -- defend)
1. Releases
