Preventive measures against a choke from the side include verbals attacks and heel defending and counterattacking. Release from a choke from the side, plucking motion with five fingers. Explosive motion to remove the attacking hand from the neck. At the same time, lean forward, crouch a bit, attack to the groin, lift the elbow with an attack to the chin, take the hand out. Hammer punch, continue with more counterattacks as needed.
Release from a choke from behind. Plucking motion with two hands. Moving diagonally backwards, lowering yourself, crouching, and taking the chin down exposes the thumbs of the opponent. Touch pinkies together then grab the thumbs of the opponent. Pay attention to grab the thumbs themselves. Counterattacking first to the groin and then to the chin.
You have two options. One is to move away. You can actually deliver a kick while doing this or to turn towards the opponent and deliver multiple counterattacks. Finish with scanning the area and doing the next thing you need to do.
Plucking release in a turn against a choke from behind. Especially effective when the choke is with a pull. Scrape and pluck the attacker’s thumb from your neck while moving outward with the same leg. Punch as soon as you can while turning towards the attacker. Continue with other relevant counterattacks and move away from the danger zone. As you’re bringing your hand up to release from the choke, take the chin down in order to expose the thumb and also as a protection mechanism. To enable an accurate release of the thumb, send your pinkie towards your spine and then scrape the attacker’s thumb.
A variation of the technique, if you are pulled and your body is relatively low because of the pull it will be difficult to counterattack with a punch. In this case, you can do a lock. One hand grab and release the thumb, the other hand grab the side of the pinkie. Together you rotate the opponent’s wrist and create the strong leverage. This leverage, one, can cause damage, and two, will probably send the opponent towards the ground. As needed, make counterattacks. Without strong counterattacks you can consider this as a softer solution against the choke from behind.
A. Circular Strikes Hooks (Roundhouses) & Uppercuts
Notes: Start drilling both strikes first from a semi-passive stance, then from a ready stance; for the hooks, while in ready stance the front-hand strike has two variations.
D. Kicks
E. Series of Attacks – to the front, side and rear; with different targets, heights and angles
F. Inside Defenses with Palm or Forearm Against Straight Punches
G. Outside Defenses Against Punches
H. Body Defense with Hand Strike to Groin
I. Defending Against an Opponent Attacking from Different Angles
J. Leg Defenses Against Kicks [from passive and ready ('outlet') stances]
Note: Technique no.1 is first applied against regular kicks and later against roundhouse and sidekicks. Techniques 3 and 4 are used against an attack delivered to an unknown height. Use the forearm as previously learned, bony or muscular parts for inside or outside defenses.
K. Choke Releases (including Distance Timeline)
Note: When lack of force, use two hands to remove one of attacker's chocking hand.
L. Defenses Against a Knife Threat (including Distance Timeline)
N. Choke Releases While on the Ground
O. Using Common Objects – Small Objects to Distract
Note: This is used primarily in a situation before an actual attack is made, mainly during the threat stage or in the very early stages of an attack.
Q. Returning Attacker (defend -- attack -- defend)
