Shalom, everyone. Welcome to this week’s technique review. When we have a natural response, it is dictating our basic technique. So if the natural response is something like this, as if something’s towards you, like from the camera towards me, some sort of attack straight towards my face. Natural defense, natural behavior, can be like this if I’m standing this way. If something like this happens, what do we do with this motion? How can we turn this motion into an effective hand defense?

Just to understand what’s happening, is that the palm is coming up, the form’s coming up, there’s an angle here, the elbow rises less than the palm. So that when the elbow comes up, the elbow also contracts. And that’s the defense.

What we do is, we are doing this type of defense with a counter attack. So straight attack, defend, and counter attack. This is the most natural defense against a straight attack towards the face if you were, more or less, standing a little bit sideways.

Plus either moving backwards and contacting with a kick, or sinking in and contacting with a punch with the back hand. So what happens, again, you are sinking as a body defense. You are raising the arm as the hand defense, the active defense, the dynamic defense. And from here, you continue. Now, if we want to do some better body defense, meaning don’t stay in the same line, the same channel, not only to go up and down, but to go sideways. So in the case, we’ll move in an angle sideways.

And as usual, if we’re talking about basic moves … If I want to move to my right, I move my right leg. I want to move to my left, left leg forward, forward leg backward, back leg. So if in this situation I want to move to my right, imagine attack is coming towards my face and I want to move to right, I would move first my right leg. And I’ll be able to move my body out from this out channel of attack, and still — because I turned — be towards the opponent.

So defense number four, in the place, looks like this. Defense number four, I guess, I straight punch again, yes? With a better body movement … Look at my back, where I move, towards the side in an angle. So eventually, you should find yourself about 45 degrees towards the opponent, towards the attacker. So again, natural motion, natural response, on this natural response, we are building the basic hand defense. It’s coming upwards and forwards so don’t defend too close to your body, catch it earlier, back a little bit with a counter attack. And obviously, we can also move outside this area, this channel of attack.

Practice. You’ll be good in it. All the best.
