Hi guys. This week technique review is about the problem of straight stabs, low from the side. So we talked about straight stabs low from the front, inside, outside defenses. We talked about low inside defense with the forearm, we talked about an attacker coming from the side, that are high. And now we talk about attackers coming from the side, low.

Also here we have different types of natural responses. So for example, if he attacks like this and I’m doing this kind of response, very natural. Sometimes you did not turn the body, but you saw it coming and you are defending, you are moving the hand. This way’s natural, by the way of the palm, forearm also reasonably natural. And moving the body forward. Sometimes there is very much of a scared type of response, like this kind of technique.

So if you remember the time we talked about the high problem, there was the issue of leaning away. Here, leaning away is possible, but kicking is almost impossible in that sense. So also we have the situation is maybe different from the attacker who is coming with the right hand from my right side, a little bit more behind with his head, compared from the left side, which is a bit more front and inward with the head compared to my striking hand.

So this is the natural responses that are different in relation to this specific problem. But I will do it this time, they will see, when he stabs you, that’s the hand defense. Now I’m saying that body defense, if either turning towards him or sending the pelvis forward. So pelvis forward, this step would be dagger forward, so if we are moving away, then better move quickly away.

Because I will not be able to reach. But if I take my advancing leg, diagonally forward, this, I will be able to move away from the channel. So I will not have the mistake of not reaching, and now I will be able to reach him, where am I kicking? Again a sensitive area, if kicking above the center of gravity, low ribs so our place is level. And this kick, instead of hurting, will create distance. And again the idea is, remember, if I kick like this, falling away, damage will be very minimal and he can then chase me.

We need to have a situation where the contact is such that I’m sending him away from me, which means the base leg should be a bit away compared to the center of gravity. If the situation is from the other side, practically not distance. So from here I’m going to do this angle, so you can see what is there.

So see how the body moved and see how the body moves, nice move from here to the other side, this way. So now from the right side, now it’s coming from my left side, he stabs behind my arm, natural response is this one more time. Body motion, diagonally forward, the step that is forward, that’s the idea. Let’s do it fast.

That’s okay. Slower.

So this was practically the same technique. Again, if I had a very strong moving away, then he will stay in front of me, more or less, when he is coming again I should be ready and kick him, like that. And not be in a situation that I cannot control the problem. Another way of course if something like this happens or is coming, I will be now in another type of situation, a tough angle facing the problem, so if you have moved away from the angle of attack, I have to deal with the attack number 2 or number 3.

All this is correct, whether way if you got the first step. Sometimes there will be a situation, the first stab now a new situation. Only now after the first stab, you are looking. Only the first or second stab you are managing to move. If you can manage against the first stab, don’t get another one. Remember in Israel the average was 6, 7, 8, stabs to kill a person. Now the next is what happens if the response is more or less in place and turning and setting the hands towards the person.

So that’s, this is the natural response, or this way to build. Then execute. Bit of a spinning and moving, so when he attacks me a few times, he attacks, you see how the hand defense, the body defense, is not so existing in the beginning. But try and move with the spinning, away from the line and then from the channel. As soon as possible you attack, the hand defense, usually a chopping action, and if you link chopping and scooping, meaning creating this action, no problem at all.

So from here when he attacks, that is the situation now, and again it depends on the level of readiness and the natural response that happens to you. And what will happen on the other side. So when the stab coming for my right side, when I turn, his head is more or less right here. And turning 90 degrees, and his head is front of my fist and I’m in good attacking abilities. When I’m doing from here, 90 degrees, he is not in front of me. And more more more, and then he has the time to return and attack and recoil and attack again.

So when we have a situation, that he’s attacking you from this side, and especially if he’s advancing, so in this case he’s much more behind me, or by my right side. So then we have to try again the principle of defend defend attack. He attacks, look what happens again slowly. Defend that natural response, right? So I defend, and rob it. So he’s slow from attacking, so we’ve had a lot of time, I can move and attack. But I didn’t have the time, that’s what we assume, it’s theoretically low level readiness. It’s here, and here I’ll go on defense while he’s recoiling, and attack him again.

So while turning, I defend the first stab, and turning and reaching with the other hand so I can deal with the second stab as soon as I can, shoulders should be low of course. Elbows should be low. So defend defend, attack. Now common mistakes for example is the high stab. Here, look. If my body’s staying like this, high straight turning, then my hand is rather late and away. If at the same time, again same time, is turning and also bend with the shoulder towards my front knee, this will reach, with this action I will reach his hand. So the issue is, that at the same time I’m doing the spinning of the body and the bending of the body.

And the bending is of course not forward, it’s at an angle then lean forward, towards my front knee, so I can reach him early. So we would consider this a mistake. I’m exposed more, let this hand move more on purpose out of line, and I’m much earlier with my defense, second defense, and now continuing. Again if I’m high, there lots of good ability to deflect him, yes? This is much better when I’m low. And again, when my shoulder is low, my striking ability is much much better. Because I will not be at this angle, I will be at that angle because I turned.

So again slowly, defend defend. And with all this, you can see here, how early I am going outside through the channel. So go to the other side of the channel. Defend, hand defense, but the defense first, sorry, and then out of the channel.

Thank you so much, we will see you as soon as possible.
