Shalom everyone. This week’s technique review about pistol defense. Albert from the G.I.T. in Israel, will be assisting. So I would like to show you something. Some time ago, I got a picture, that I know from the person, one instructor, and he asked me … the picture looked like this. Who was in the picture? Imi and a soldier. And I was asked, “What is this type of technique?” So it turned out, Imi was doing a technique against gun from behind, in the ’50s, or in the ’60s. Something like this. Grabbing and trapping the weapon.

And of course he obviously understand that this is problematic technique to be very accurate with this. And what happens if the threat is behind? So he changed it into this technique. And then he understood: A, if I’m aiming to grab the wrist area, there will be maybe a reaction. The moment I rotate and turn, the reaction maybe that he’ll pull the gun, and what happens now if I don’t catch the gun? You understand, he was to go inward. And with time, technique went like this.

So what happens here is, you look, you understand what’s happening, and then you’re doing the hand defense and the body defense. Unfortunately you are staying in the channel, so if you go from the inside, from the live side, you have very good control. You can pull. You can stop the gun from being pulled very easily. However, you’re not outside the line, outside the channel. You are inside. What is also possible to do the technique from the other side, and here at this moment, we have a much better dynamic defense, meaning the body defense is much, much better, much more out of the channel, but the control is not so good. So in this side, control is less. On the other side, control is much, much better.

This is the differences between the right and the left sides. However, just think about the situation. If he’s aiming at me, I do basic technique, from the live side, that side, by the way, as you see me, I took the gun, I hid the gun and I run away, obviously there is a possibility of using the gun. But if you’re in this position, maybe police will shoot you, because you are the enemy. You’ve got … potential enemy. You’ve got the gun. So sometimes, hiding the gun and running away is better solution.

So in this case, when he has a gun on me, I go that side. Live side doesn’t really matter, what do we see? We see that we’re making a defense and we send the gun away from us, and we continue to go behind the gun. You’re behind the gun. You disarm the person. You finish the drill, and move away from the danger zone. So what I mean is, that you’re doing a deflection and a grab, which is the control, and you’re pushing the gun away from you all the time towards the enemy all the time. This is the basic line of thinking.

However, from behind, when you’re doing the technique, what happens? You are doing a deflection, and then you pull it towards you. So think about it. You’re deflecting the gun and then pulling the gun. Or pulling the arm. So there is, in a way, a problem in this technique, because you have … when you’re pulling the gun, you have to be behind the gun. I cannot pull the gun to me and now be in front of the gun. So this is the, you could say, a bit of an issue with this technique. You have to go in, and get behind the gun as soon as possible. Okay? So technique is still very good, but you need to understand how to do it. Not to fall into traps, like pushing away and returning with the gun towards you. That’s the basic, and the different elements and principles and mechanics of this technique.

Now if we want to control the gun well, we have to deflect and then go deep. Again, deflect, go deep. And from here we’re catching, and we’re saying grab around the elbow. So my pinky is around the elbow. That is the basic type of technique here. So this is most of the different elements in this technique. If you’ve got any questions, write to us. All the best, thank you for listening and watching. Albert, thank you so much.
