In self-defense, especially when you are attacked by surprise, the attacker decided to attack. He had the initiative and you were aware only of the actions of the person. So you have to respond. In that case, in most situations, you will be in disadvantage. So Krav Maga, especially the basic self-defense technique, we are acting from a situation of disadvantage.
Attacker decided you were not aware of the decision, you were aware of the actions. In this level of P1, we are dealing with attacker who comes from the front. We need to be good. First of all this is the basics. Naturally we learned how to attack two different directions. How to contact in two different directions. But first of all, dealing with the attacker who comes from the front.
In the next level, we will deal also with attackers who come from the sides and from behind. The way to understand, that in reality we may start our actions from different situations and positions. First of all, first situation, you may start from a passive position, meaning you’re doing nothing in specific. Probably you’re thinking about something, but you’re not doing anything. So starting from passive. The second thing, if you are doing some daily thing, you’re reading, you’re writing, you’re walking or thinking about something, you’re talking to another person, you’re window shopping. So you’re busy in something. Your brain is busy in something. Your mind is busy. And you have to free yourself from that business, from this action, and divert all your resources and your attention to the new problem that you have to solve.
The last situation you may be in is you’re already doing some fighting. You’re already doing some Krav Maga against a certain opponent, and then you have to do something else, another type of Krav Maga, another type of technique against another person or against the same person.
So practically three options. One from passive, one from daily uses, daily moves, daily actions, and the last thing from Krav Maga to Krav Maga. From fighting something, from doing self-defense against somebody to another type of self-defense or another type of fighting. In P1, in this level, you start your journey in Krav Maga. Krav Maga is a simple system. You acquire knowledge and information and abilities very fast. However, the more you stay on the road, you’ll get further. Train, invest time in training.
