Inside defenses against slow, straight punches. Start from a semi-passive stance. The defense is efficient and effective whether the punch is higher or lower. To emphasize the efficiency of a defense against the low strike, let the elbow lead the motion. The elbow will move diagonally forward, then recoil the forearm and send your counterattack as soon as you can. It is possible to defend with the left against the left, and with the right against the right, especially from the semi-passive stance.
The defense in the counterattack should more or less be, at the broken rhythm. It is also possible in the end of the defense, to trap the opponent’s arm, mainly used against straight stab with a knife. Dry drill. See the elbow moves diagonally forward until it passes the silhouette completely.
Outside scooping defense against straight, low punches. Start by lifting the elbow and sending the forearm down and sideways. The deflection should be sideways. Aim to deflect the strike with the middle of your forearm. Natural process of the technique, you are bending your wrist, creating a scoop. We emphasize the elbow is moving sideways and a bit upwards, while the defense includes body turn and moving a bit diagonally forward. Usually, defending with the left against the right, and with the right against the left.
