Try to avoid the confrontation. Attempt to de-escalate it verbally. Attack the attacker the moment you see he has the intention, ability, and the tool to attack you. At a medium distance, you can prevent the attacker from grabbing you. Deflect or block his hands, and counterattack as soon as you can. Reflexive defense at last moment, two hands made a defense, meaning backwards, and counterattacking with them. Education stop. Block the advancement of the attacker at a medium distance. Stop him at the chest with the heel of the hand. Push your fingers to the hollow between the collarbones. The pressure will create irritation, and stop the person away from you. This is a soft technique. Your intention in to talk afterwards. To the opponent, “Move away from me.” Or, “Let me go.” Like this you are trying to finish the incident without really fighting.
“The attacker is happy that I want to go away.” Release from a choke from the front. Two hands plucking motion, with simultaneous counterattacks. The palms is two hooks, as close as possible to your neck. Hit it from the center to the outside. At the same time, stop in place. Deliver knee to the groin. Your body leans backwards. Your chin is lowered. Your face are lowered. Continue with additional counterattacks. Finish with moving away, scanning the area, and going to the next mission you need to do.
One hand plucking release, with simultaneous counterattacking. As one hand is defending, making the release, making the 360, you are delivering straight counterattack forward. Continue with additional counterattacks, such as a knee to the groin, more punches. Finish by moving away from the danger zone, scanning the area, and going to the next mission.
Defending Against Front Chokes
Returning Attacker (defend -- attack -- defend)
Choke Releases (including Distance Timeline)
Note: When lack of force, use two hands to remove one of attacker's chocking hand.
Choke Releases While on the Ground
Returning Attacker (defend -- attack -- defend)
Escaping Headlocks (Distance Timeline)
Escaping Side Headlocks on the Ground
Simulation and Tactics – P3 (Timeline from/on the Ground)
Note: Techniques nos. 1 and 2 above are especially effective when assailant is pushing.
Releases from Bear Hugs - Arms Free
Releases from Bear Hugs - Arms Caught
Notes: Train on the use of a shout and a bite against a bear hug from the front.
Releases from Bear Hugs from the Side - Variations on the Above Sections
Dealing with Attempts to Grab and with Dangerous Arm / Wrist Grabs
Releases from Various Hand / Wrist Grabs
Note: Be familiar with the application of the principles: axis and leverage (not pulling); escaping by way of an opening or towards the thumb; circular movements; and using the other hand for assistance.
Simulation and Tactics – P4 – Two attackers approaching from different directions
Releases from Hair Grabs or Pulls
Notes: Practice various and multiple counterattacks; end the scenario in a standing position.
Defending Against Unexpected/Unfamiliar Attacks
Escaping Two-Person Wrist Grabs
Releases From Wrist Grabs While on the Ground
(attacker has mounted the defender)
Escaping from Headlocks and Chokes While on the Ground
Dealing with a Continuing Attacker – Whilst releasing from previously learnt Chokes and/or Headlocks
Defense Against One-Handed Shirt Grabs
Escaping From Two-Handed Shirt Grabs
Escaping a One-Handed Shirt Grab
Escaping Holds in a Sitting Position(using previous principles and techniques)
Overcoming Disorientation Caused by an Attack (groggy)
Problem: Defender suffering pain and/or concussion resulting in inability to breath or function, the defender's tendency is to remain in standup fighting.
Solution: Fall sideways, softly to the ground, with legs toward the opponent, counterattack.
Advantage: Taking the initiative recuperates; improving position.
Disadvantage: against more than one attacker; problematic terrain
Escaping Various Grabs and Holds (Defender Throws Attacker)
Note: In techniques 1-3, the attacker has slammed into the defender.
